Song of the Day, January 28: We’re Doing Alright by Marti Jones

MartiAlrightToday’s song is the opening track of Marti Jones’ lovely album Match Game. A collection of songs about love and life that showcases her beautiful voice, it’s a folk-pop masterpiece produced by Jones’ husband and regular collaborator, Don Dixon.

We’re Doing Alright is a smart opener. Slow and bittersweet, it sets the tone nicely. The lyrics are actually quite hopeful, with the singer moving on from past pain and realizing that she’s found stability and happiness. It was written by Reed Nielsen, one-time member of Nielsen/Pearson who scratched the Top 40 in 1980 with If You Sould Sail. Understated and poignant, it suits Marti Jones perfectly.

Enjoy this great live version of the song today.
