Song of the Day, July 15: Waitress Song by First Aid Kit

FirstAidStayWaitressToday’s song looks at how maybes can clarify realities. As First Aid Kit, the Söderberg sisters have released three solid albums of smart, folky pop. Their third, Stay Gold, is the best yet, filled with lovely songs. One of the finest is Waitress Song. They sing about all the things someone might do — hide in a small town, join the circus, get lost in the wilderness — to avoid making sense of the complications of romance. In every case, the possibility of escape inevitably leads back home as the fantasy plays out. It’s a smart construction, delivered in aching harmonies. An urgent acoustic guitar propels the song, with strings and band soaring in where needed to emphasize the journeys.

Enjoy this wonderfully crafted song today.
