Song of the Day, July 12: If You Leave by the Hummingbirds

HummingbirdsLeaveToday’s song is the collaborative highlight of a power pop gem. The Hummingbirds’s debut, loveBUZZ, featured amazing harmonies and tight, smart playing. The penultimate track was the only song written by all four members, and their combined input created a swirling powerhouse.

If You Leave (no, not that one), blends the three vocalists gloriously. Delicate guitar underpins the harmonies, reminiscent of the Mamas and the Papas with a crisp, edgy tone. Alannah Russack’s lead vocal is stunning, brimming with fragile power. The result is a lush mini-epic.

Enjoy this amazing song today.
