Song of the Day, June 14: Go Through It by Blondie

BlondieAutoamBackGoToday’s song is a thematic gem from a major new wave band’s last big album. Blondie’s fifth disc, Autoamerican, is a charming mess, a hodgepodge of styles (including the reggae and rap chart-toppers The Tide Is High and Rapture) tied together with a series of songs about cars. The theme of travel and the highway’s centrality in the American myth works surprisingly well, giving the disc just enough cohesion.

One of the highlights is Go Through It. A story song about uneasy romance on the road, it’s a fun bit of wordplay delivered with the finest Blondie energy. As an added bonus, it features the delightful line “I love you honey, give me a beer”, a tossed off sentiment which somehow anchors the song.

Enjoy this fun drive today.
