Song of the Day, June 3: Does Caroline Know? by Talk Talk

TalkTalkCarolineToday’s song is an elegant pondering on responsibility. After a first album of mostly unremarkable synth-pop, Talk Talk returned with an amazing evolution. It’s My Life fuses the synth work to a wide variety of musical styles, held together with seamless production and Mark Hollis’ distinctive vocals.

Does Caroline Know? is a quietly compelling number. Almost tropical drumming blends with the searing synth riffs and a slinky guitar line to create a mysterious backdrop. Hollis reflects on his behavior in a relationship, wondering where his responsibility ends. It’s a smart lyric delivered well and an impressive musical statement.

Every little accident takes time.
Forget about mistakes I’ve made
They’re left behind

Enjoy this delightful song today.
