Song of the Day, May 30: To Be In Your Eyes by the Church

ChurchBlurredEyesToday’s song is a reflection on love and absence. On their second album, The Blurred Crusade, the Church leapt from the solid new wave of their debut and crafted a distinctive neopsychedelic prog rock all their own. Most of the album features mysterious lyrics and a powerful twin guitar.

To Be In Your Eyes is a more straightforward song, with singer Steve Kilbey pondering his distance from a loved one. The lyrics are poetic and carefully woven, laying out his feelings in an elegant rhythm. Almost acoustic, it’s a charming song, a nice departure that adds to the richness of the album.

I want these words to be the things
I hoped you’d realised
To be in your eyes

Enjoy this lovely song today
