Song of the Day, May 2: I Want Your (Hands On Me) by Sinéad O’Connor

SineadHandsToday’s song is a straightforward demand on a disc of difficult ponderings. Sinéad O’Connor’s powerful debut, The Lion and the Cobra, is filled with ghosts, legends, meditations, temples, and dark places. She crafted a diverse, often energetic musical framework to explore these themes. A standout track strays from the pack a bit, exploring something more earthly.

I Want Your (Hands On Me) is an urgent dance number, driven by complex percussion and simple desire. O’Connor turns in a great, grabbing vocal, making things very clear indeed. The fundamental nature of the lyric somehow fits with the whole of the album, while the dramatic delivery provides a nice counterpoint.

Enjoy this great song today.
