Song of the Day, January 13: Take It Any Way You Want It by Pat Benatar

BenatarPreciousAnyWayToday’s song is a high point on Pat Benatar’s strongest album. After the commercial success of Crimes of Passion, Benatar and her band returned to the studio and recorded Precious Time. A strong set of songs, it shows off the singer’s versatility without surrendering her well-known power. As with her previous albums, the tracks are a mix of covers, originals, and outside songs written for the disc.

Take It Any Way You Want It was composed by Benatar’s husband, guitarist, and producer, Neil Giraldo with British power pop singer Martin Briley. Their approaches merge nicely, with Giraldo providing a rock crunch and Briley adding his trademark wit. A biting kiss-off of a song, it’s smart enough not to come across as simply bitter. Benatar’s delivery is flawless, with just the right bite.

Enjoy this great song today.
