Song of the Day, December 16: Put the Message In the Box by World Party

World-Party-Message-In-The-BoxToday’s song is World Party’s Put the Message In the Box. Karl Wallinger is a talented singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist; he joined forces with Mike Scott in the Waterboys, recording two albums as part of the band. Eager to pursue his own musical vision rather than support Scott’s, he assumed the name World Party. A group in name only, it became the vehicle for Wallinger to pursue his melodic Beatlesesque pop. His second album, Goodbye Jumbo, is a smart set of songs focused loosely on ecological and humanitarian themes. Its standout is Put the Message In the Box, an ode to getting the word out. Rich but not mannered, it’s a lovely package of sing-along pop that has true heart.

Enjoy this lovely song today.
