Song of the Day, December 10: Picking Up the Pieces by Paloma Faith

PalomaFPiecesToday’s song is a birthday treat for my husband. We discovered the charmingly unique Paloma Faith watching The Graham Norton Show. With a distinctive visual style something like a 21st Century British Cyndi Lauper and an impressive set of pipes, the singer is captivating. Her best song — and our introduction to her — is the 2012 single Picking Up the Pieces.

Opening with an edgy, soaring string section, it features a gripping vocal and smart production. Faith describes it as a song about

being in a relationship with someone who is still recovering from a previous relationship with another person. It is a song about self-doubt and insecurity.

Enjoy this wonderful song today, and wish my husband, Michael, a very happy birthday.
