Song of the Day, November 3: Just Remember I Love You by Firefall

FirefallLunaJustToday’s song is a staple of mid-70s soft rock. Former Flying Burrito Brother Rick Roberts met up with guitarist Jock Bartley touring with Gram Parsons’ new outfit, the Fallen Angels, in 1973. They had some musical chemistry and decided to assemble a band. They added bassist Mark Andes (Spirit, Jo Jo Gunne, future Heart member) and second guitarist Larry Burnett, and eventually recruited drummer Mike Clarke, late of the Byrds. They dubbed themselves Firefall and began a five-year career that featured a number of country-tinged soft rock hits.

Their finest moment is Just Remember I Love You, the lead single [#11 Pop, #1 Adult Contemporary] from their second album, Luna Sea. It’s a wonderful ballad of love and support, offering hope in dark times. Roberts’ vocal has a fragile strength and the band create a sympathetic backdrop that ties the package together perfectly.

Enjoy this beautiful song today.
