Song of the Day, September 10: Brief Candles by the Zombies

ZombiesBriefCToday’s song is a highlight of the Zombies masterpiece Odessey and Oracle. It’s one of Chris White’s best contributions to the band, a bittersweet look at love and regret. Each verse is handled by a different vocalist, adding a subtle power to the proceedings.

Brief candles in his mind
Bright and tiny gems of memory
Brief candles burn so fine
Leaves a light inside where he can see
What makes it all worthwhile
His sadness makes him smile

Enjoy this beautiful song today.
