Song of the Day, July 10: Fact of Life by Poi Dog Pondering

PoiDogLivingFactToday’s song is Fact of Life by Poi Dog Pondering. It was the closing track of their debut EP and one of the highlights of their eponymous first album. At their best, the band explored the minute, everyday, and mundane with wonder and delight. In this case, they explore a bigger — but no less everyday — theme, the inevitability of death.

Poi Dog Pondering give the heavy subject a light touch, insisting that if things must end, we should make the most of the time we have. With a joyous musical backdrop highlighted by fine playing from all eight band members, it’s a celebratory mini-epic.

Enjoy this wonderful song today.
