Song of the Day, July 9: Mean by P!nk

P!NK_meanToday’s song is a cathartic centerpiece of P!nk’s finest album. Funhouse is a brilliant dissection of a crumbling relationship, with the singer exploring all the ways we cope with and contribute to the end of a romance. Mean is a smart title and a compelling look at how it takes two to fully dismantle a marriage.

How did we get so mean? How do we just move on?
How do you feel in the morning when it comes and everything’s undone?

Observational, confessional, inquiring, and pleading, it’s one of her strongest moments. The energetic, bluesy music rolls along, propelling her lyrics with a compelling inevitability. This is personal pop at its finest.

Enjoy this great song today.
