Song of the Day, May 7: We Can Get Together by Icehouse

IcehouseWeCanToday’s song is We Can Get Together by Icehouse. The Australian band — centered on vocalist and songwriter Iva Davies — were originally known as Flowers. As they pursued international success they ran into a UK band with a similar name and adopted the title of their first album as their new moniker. That debut is a great album, mixing chilly synths with urgent guitars and a surging rhythm section, all held together by Davies’ distinctive vocals.

We Can Get Together is a song of yearning, a dance floor wish for romantic connection. The narrator is so smitten that he can’t quite put the words together, spinning a charming patter that is all the more effective for its artless ways. It’s a great 80s dance track that holds up well because of its wit and heart.

Enjoy this fun song today.
