Song of the Day, April 2: Meet On the Ledge by Fairport Convention

FapCoLedgeToday’s song is Meet On the Ledge by Fairport Convention. It’s the next-to-last track on their brilliant second album What We Did On Our Holidays, and is the final vocal statement on the disc. It is one of the earliest songs written by Richard Thompson; he was uncertain of his vocal delivery at the time, so the song is ably handled by the divine duo of Ian Matthews and Sandy Denny.

A testament to companionship, the song has become an unofficial anthem for the band over the years. They have included it on a number of albums, especially live, and frequently use it to close out their shows.

Meet on the ledge
We’re gonna meet on the ledge
When my time is up I’m gonna see all my friends
Meet on the ledge
We’re gonna meet on the ledge
If you really mean it, it all comes round again

Enjoy this powerful song of camaraderie today.

  1. Absolutely wonderful song, as is the whole album. Thanks for sharing, will dig that one up and have a listen, has been some time!

Glad you enjoyed it. One of the big joys for me in doing Song of the Day (and especially Album of the Week) is digging out old favorites for a new listen. Happy to inspire the same!
