Song of the Day, September 6: Dreams Dissolve In Tears by Jules Shear and Pal Shazar

Today’s song is Dreams Dissolve In Tears by Jules Shear and Pal Shazar. Shear wrote and recorded the song for his brilliant 1992 album The Great Puzzle. Shazar, his wife, provides marvelous duet vocals. Their sweet and sour voices blend perfectly as they tell the story of a doomed relationship.

From the very first moment that she met him

He was always saying goodbye

Never with his voice but with his touch and with his eyes […]

Salt dissolves in water

Youth dissolves in years

But it’s the hardest fate to watch the way that

Dreams dissolve in tears

The stripped-down accompaniment helps to underscore the sad tale and clever lyrics. Enjoy this wonderful song today.
