Song of the Day, April 15: All Blue by Cheri Knight

Today’s song is All Blue by Cheri Knight. This amazing singer and songwriter harkens from the Berkshires and has a musical sound that clearly shows their connection to the Appalachians.

There’s a real northern tradition of bluegrass and old-time music that’s not as well-known as what happens south of the Mason-Dixon line. I’m a northern person. I grew up hiking in the Berkshires. That was my playground, and I think it’s affected me tremendously. It wasn’t like I had this fantasy that I was in the Appalachians and that tied me into some musical tradition. I’m totally an outdoors person. I’m a farmer. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.

Sadly for music fans, that seems to be true. After recording the amazing Northeast Kingdom (which features today’s song) in 1998, Knight returned to organic farming and has not released another album. Let’s hope her muse returns and brings us all a song as delightful as All Blue soon.
