This week’s Time Capsule!

Album Beauty and the Beat The Go-Go’s

This week sees a Top 40 mainstay of the 80s and 90s peak with his first hit on the Hot 100. Bryan Adams racked up an impressive 22 Top 40 hits between 1983 and 1995, including four #1s (with a total of 17 weeks at the top). In 1982 he was releasing his second album, You Want It You Got It, having achieved moderate success on the Canadian charts. His first U.S. single, Lonely Nights, debuted thirty years ago last week at #88. It eased up to #84 this week, then disappeared from the charts — hardly an indicator of the success to come. His real chart success was just a year away. On March 12, 1983 his first Top 10 single, Straight From the Heart, debuted at #81.
