This week sees more chart stagnation. The Hot 100 sees a bit of motion in the Top 10, preparing for some big changes in the next couple of weeks and George Benson notches his second of two R&B #1s, but overall the charts hold steady.

Let’s look elsewhere in music news, then. On January 23, 1986, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame held its first induction, welcoming nine members. While that first class were all clearly deserving and the pool had nice racial balance, it was sad that no women were inducted at all that year. This trend of neglect continues to be one of the Hall’s greatest weaknesses.
