This week sees a lot of chart stagnation. The tops of every chart but Country hold steady after multiple weeks. (The Country chart continues its long trend of turning over the #1 spot almost every week.) On the Hot 100, the top six positions remain the same and only two new songs enter the Top 40. The highest debut on the pop charts (of the sparse five new songs) is the novelty hit Pac-Man Fever by one hit wonder Buckner and Garcia, coming in at #76. The duo had written and performed a handful of songs under various names and had recently produced the single version of the theme song from WKPR In Cincinnati. They enjoyed modest success with this single, peaking at #9 for two weeks in late March. Pigeonholed as novelty artists, they went on to write songs for others and to compose jingles but never entered the charts as recording artists again.
