Bonus Thanksgiving Song: Now Be Thankful by Fairport Convention

To help us celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, here is a wonderful song. During the transitional moment just before Richard Thompson left the band, Fairport Convention released the beautiful single Now Be Thankful. It was composed by Thompson with frequent Fairport co-writer Dave Swarbrick. Swarb, a master fiddler and wonderful player of many stringed instruments, delivers a rare and lovely lead vocal. The somewhat mystical lyrics provide encouragement to be thankful for what we have, no matter the circumstances.

Let me take today to express my great thanks to my husband, Michael, who makes my life wonderful every day.

(Bonus trivia: the B-side of the single is a medley of three songs which the band retitled. In an effort (which sadly failed) to get into the Guiness Book of Records, they created the whimsical and unwieldy title Sir B. McKenzie’s Daughter’s Lament For The 77th Mounted Lancer’s Retreat From The Straits Of Loch Knombe, In The Year Of Our Lord 1727, On The Occasion Of The Announcement Of Her Marriage To The Laird Of Kinleakie. Whew!)
