Song of the Day, November 5: Skin by Vigilantes of Love

Today’s song is Skin by Vigilantes of Love. This folky rock band from Georgia are the primary vehicle for singer and songwriter Bill Mallonee. He has worked with a wide variety of musicians under the VoL name. The finest Vigilantes release is 1995’s Blister Soul, a solid set of songs with a nice variety of tempos and themes. Mallonee is strong on imagery and narrative, skills on particular display in this song. Using the fragile genius of Vincent van Gogh as a framework, he encourages the listener to be brave in their approach to the world and to wear their “thickest skin.” Enjoy this wonderful song today.
