Song of the Day, July 17: Rebound by Sebadoh

Today’s song is Rebound by Sebadoh. This is one of those songs that found me at just the right moment. I was at the devastating end of a very bad relationship when the other party bounced on to another man. Even though I was done with things, being replaced so casually while the pieces were still scattered all over the ground was salt in a very deep wound. The thrash of anger and despair in this song, telling how doomed a rebound must be, was just what I needed.

Heart-broken and attractive, a sad, sloppy mess
Lookin’ for approval and easily impressed
Beware they say, but why would I listen?
I need to know what I’ve been missing
I’m no one you can trust
All little-boy lonely with curious lust
Confusion turns me upside down
Lost as quickly as I’m found
But soon enough it turns around
On the rebound

Thank you Sebadoh, for a great song that got me through some bad times. I can even enjoy it now just for its thrashy fun. Wish writer and vocalist Lou Barlow a happy 45th birthday and enjoy Rebound — from the classic album Bakesale — today.
