Song of the Day, April 21: Farewell, Farewell by Fairport Convention

Fairport in 1969

Today’s song is Farewell, Farewell by Fairport Convention. This is one of Sandy Denny’s finest vocal performances and one of Richard Thompson’s best early compositions. On April 21, 1978, at the age of 31, Denny died from a brain hemmorage resulting from a fall a few weeks earlier. This song of loss and absence, taken from Fairport’s 1969 masterpiece, Liege and Lief, seems a fitting tribute. Listen to Farewell, Farewell and celebrate the wonderful talent of Alexandra Elene Maclean Denny, known fittingly as The Lady.
